DODD and the interRAI Assessment Tool

A new assessment tool in the waiver modernization project

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) is in the process of implementing a new, standardized assessment tool known as interRAI to replace the ODDP and the AAI assessments.

The interRAI tool collects standardized information that can be used to support planning, care coordination, and quality improvement.

DODD says –

The new assessment will help accomplish the following goals:

  • Comprehensively assesses individual support needs
  • Structure a more consistent assessment process
  • Build provider rates that accurately reflect support needs
  • Simplify the budgeting and prior authorization process

According to DODD, Ohio will use the tool:

  • To help decide individual budgets for people on the IO waiver
  • To help set payment rates for providers based on a person’s needs for the IO, SELF, and Level One waivers.
  • To help service and support administrators (SSAs) with person-centered planning
