Understanding Activities Related to MUIs or UIRs

Conducting investigations of abuse, neglect, MUIs and UIRs are a COVERAGE EXCLUSION under Targeted Case Management. Investigative activities performed by an SSA must be documented as unallowable. It is the responsibility of an investigative agent employed or under contract with a county board who is certified by the DODD to conduct the investigations.

Understanding Activities Related to MUIs or UIRs

ACTIVITIES THAT CAN BE BILLED BY THE SSA:

Monitoring/Follow Up (as related to the activities below)

  • Reviewing MUIs & UIRs (individual reports for trends or patterns)
  • Integrating prevention plans
  • Reviewing UIRs (individual reports, for patterns or tends) – only when they are an ongoing member of the team and they are not the MUI investigator
  • MUI Prevention Plan development and follow-up
  • Working with MUI for follow-up
  • UIR follow-up
